The process of counselling

Our first session at Simply Therapy, Bury,Greater Manchester which will last approximately 1 hour will be an assessment between us about what to expect from the sessions and what the process will entail and how we can work together to resolve and deal with the concerns that are unique and specific to you and tailor make the support to suit your needs and requirements. This will give us both the opportunity to talk openly about the counselling process and ask questions of each other. We will also then discuss the boundaries of confidentiality and agree and decide how we feel working together before making a commitment to move forward into our counselling therapy relationship.

If we both decide to go ahead and engage with the counselling therapy sessions we will fill in essential paperwork. We will set aims to help us focus on our sessions, goals and outcomes and complete a counselling agreement and contract which is needed whereby we both understand what we are both agreeing too prior to commencement of the counselling therapy sessions.

We will discuss the frequency of regular one to one face to face counselling psychotherapy therapy sessions which will be agreed at the time. It is crucial to commit to regular sessions so that we can fully engage in the therapeutic counselling process at Simply Therapy.  Much of the ‘reflection, exploration and analysis and growing inner self awareness is through that reflection’ after the session which goes on between the intervals of the therapeutic sessions.

Time to healIf there is a big gap between the counselling sessions then the therapeutic and self-awareness, healing and reflection does not work properly and there is too much of a time lapse then much of the pace and momentum is lost in transit

Later on after several sessions (Usually around 6 – 8) there will be an evaluation of our time spent together and if necessary we will move forward into long term therapy. Some clients will only need and feel short term is often enough and therefore. The time spent in counselling will always remain your choice.
